School days- the very thought brings back all the memories in a flash.  With time we might tend to forget about our college days, but we seldom forget the moments spent in our school. One such memory hit back to my mind few days ago after a certain incident.

There was a kid named Shival (name changed) in our class since 1st Standard. He used to live in my society too so he used to come to my house often. When we are in primary school we only visit our friend’s house if they are staying in the permissible limit set by our parents.  So obviously even I used to go to his house sometimes. Shival had a very strong memory; however he had certain academic limitations. His handwriting was attrocious and after watching Taare Zameen Par recently I thought he might have been suffering from dylexia as well. But he had a very strong support of his family (parents and his elder sister) and also of some of the teachers in the school. They used to ask personally to Shival whether he has understood what is going in the class. Somehow he managed to clear the final exam everytime.

However things started to take a turn once he entered the High School. The seniors of our school (10th Std.) bullied him daily. He couldn’t cope with the complex problems of Algebra and Geometry. Finally the school requested his parents to shift to some other school. But his parents never tolerated any kind of discrimination against their kid…”Kid”, yes, He still was one.  They accepted the school’s request but didn’t give up hope. He completed his matriculation externally from a zero-reputed school. Then admitted to BCom[Bachelor in Commerce] in a less-known college, but atleast with the basic infrastructure. He completed BCom remarkably in 3 years. This boosted his confidence as well as his parent’s confidence in him to an entirely different level.

He then cleared the entrance exam and procured admission in a decent college for DMM[Diploma in Marketing Management].  Having completed the course this kid…no this boy was now thinking of a post graduation. His parents had probably never dreamt that their child could achieve so much. In this same college he continued with his dream of a career with a business management academic background. He then got admission for MBA with Marketing as the Specialization course.

Expectedly he completed MBA too. But securing a job was still very tough, as he suffered from his childhood problem of clarity in speech and pronouncations. Faith of his parents, confidence and a strong determination were his strengths. He uploaded his resume on an online job portal and one fine day he cleared the interview and all the related formalities for Insurance Company.

Ironically, today the proud parents are his first clients to be insured from their mentally challenged son.
